Parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens may apply for the Parent visa, which allows parents to enter, stay and live in Australia.

The Contributory Parent visas are:

The current processing time for Contributory Parent visas is up to 24 months. An Assurance of Support (AOS), which is a form of security will need to be provided.

The Non-Contributory Parent visas are:

Unfortunately, based on current planning levels, the processing time (or more correctly the ‘waiting period’) for Non-Contributory Parent visas is approximately 30 years. In some circumstances, the parent can stay in Australia while waiting for the Non-Contributory Parent visa to be approved.

The difference between the Contributory Parent visa and the Non-Contributory Parent visa is the Contributory Parent visa requires a lot more money, however the waiting period is up to 24 months a signficant difference to waiting for 30 years.

Visitor Visa (parents)

Due to the long wait with the Non-Contributory Parent visa and/or the substantial visa charges associated with the Contributory Parent visa, a Parent visa may not be practical solution. Furthermore, you may not meet other prescribed requirements for the Parent visa perhaps due to the Balance of Family Test (see below).

Does that mean parents cannot visit their family members in Australia? Definitely No.

Depending on your situation, we may be able to help you with the Visitor visa (parents) for travel periods of 3 years, 18 months or 12 months instead of the standard 3 months for a Visitor visa.
